I don't have my days mixed up. Today is Kevin's birthday. I know the picture was taken at Christmas time in the 1960's, but I couldn't wait until Christmas to share this picture. I found this "cute kid" pic while paging thru some of the UNRULEY one's photo albums. This is our Kevin (and brother Michael)at a very young age.
This is our Kevin now. Another year older, wiser and better. Happy Birthday, Kevin. Much peace, many blessings and an abundance of love - today and everyday.
I wanted to share our family history and stories and found a blog to be the easiest way to accomplish my goal. Feel free to read the various posts. Comments are encouraged and welcomed. I like sharing/telling the stories that have been told to me. It's always cool when you do the thing you like doing. I encourage everyone to make their dream a reality. Kick back, relax and enjoy your reading journey. Thank you!

Timothy Celebrates Sixth Birthday in Des Moines
My sixth birthday was a memorable one. It was the first time I left town to celebrate my birthday. Grandma, Grandpa, Toyia and I stayed with Aunt Mac and her sons, Kevin and Michael. I'm smiling as I write. I smile because I recall how excited I was. My cake wasn't homemade, it was purchased at Dahl's - the grocery store where Grandma would shop whenever we were in Des Moines. Grandma and Aunt Mac allowed me to pick the birthday cake of my choice. I chose one with orange frosting, thinking the frosting would taste like an orange. I was so happy! That soon changed when we got home with the cake. I learned I had to eat dinner before I could have any cake. I don't recall the exact time, but I know preparing, cooking and eating dinner took an eternity in my six year old mind.

When we finished dinner, it was time for the cake. Before the cake was cut, candles were lit, a picture with my BIG cousins was taken, and "Happy Birthday" was sung. When I got the first piece of cake, I smiled and dug right in. It took what I deemed a long time, but I finally got to taste my cake. Though the frosting did not have any orange flavoring, the entire cake was good to me. That was thirty-eight years ago. I will always remember the fun time and love of my family when I think of my sixth birthday.

Here's Kevin

I enjoy doing research about the family and sharing it with everyone, but I think everyone knows this. I've got something I'd like to share with you. I've made contact with a cousin I haven't seen in years. Y'all know I will track a Cooley down!!! I'm still working on finding Uncle Curtis' family in Detroit, but I digress. I was surprised this afternoon to find/connect with Cousin Kevin. Let me tell you about him. He is the son of Frank and D. Maxine (nee Cooley) and the grandson of Ethyl and Edward Cooley. Cousin Kevin is doing well and living in northern California. This is great news. It's been several, many and quite a few years since we've seen each other. The picture of the three of us, Kevin, his brother Michael and yours truly, was taken when we celebrated my sixth birthday. That was back in 1972. We have gotten older, lived life and learned a hell of a lot. One thing has remained the same -- I love my cousin. I think he looks like Dideo. It would be nice if he could make to this year's family reunion. Sidebar -- I have news about the 2009 Cooley-Johnson Family Reunion. There will be another post containing the latest information. Stay tuned...
