Leaving On A Jet Plane...

Plans change, people change and that's all good as I sit on the veranda, sipping coffee and listening to Chaka Khan sing about living a super life. I have to admit this is a nice change of pace. It feels good to get away and spend time in my second home. The nice thing is "COOL LEE" and "UNRULEY COOLEY" have a chance to spent some quality time together. After a few laughs, we decided to dine out for breakfast. Time to start moving and get out and about. I'm going to say a fun time will be be had by all.

Timoteo's Tacos

It was about fifteen years ago the UNRULEY one and Wilma B introduced a new idea to me. A new way of eating one of my favorite things to eat; tacos. As we sat in the kitchen, we shared stories, laughter and awaited our meal of tacos made from Morningstar genuine, imitation meat.
That's not the name on the box, but that's what I labeled them. Wilma B (a.k.a Juanita) was working the stove, creating magic and had everything all laid out. Once the meat alternative was done, it was time to eat. I was surprised there was no lettuce. Cilantro was used in place of lettuce. First no meat and now no lettuce?!?!?!? I'm from MinneSNOWta and I was used to eating tacos prepared with REAL meat - beef, turkey or chicken was what my people (family and friends) used. Lettuce was used, not cilantro.
I believe you should try something new and different to keep your life fresh and have new experiences. This was a first for me and I was ready to give it a try. The tacos weren't bad at all. In fact, I enjoyed eating them so much I stuffed my face. I was impressed with the taste and happy I tried something new. I came home with the brilliant idea to make them for my carnivore grandmother, mother, sister and nephew. Not everyone is open to something new, especially if you're using a meat alternative. Grandma said, "It's not a meal if there's no meat." The odds were stacked against me, but I decided to give it a try. Needless to say the meatless tacos went over like a lead balloon. My family wasn't ready to make the change to tacos made from veggie burgers. One thing they did enjoy was the cilantro. That went over very well.
In fact, we still have tacos (made with meat) with cilantro today.

Baby, You Turned Me Out...

You never know what you'll find on the internet. I was looking for another song and came across a remixed version of the UNRULEY one's song with Klymaxx. "All Turned Out" was a jam back in the day. Always a party starter and a song that would crowd the dance floor every time it was played. The song was first heard on the Girls Will Be Girls album released in 1982. Get ready for this cut to breathe new life. Márcio Vermelho, of São Paulo, Brazil has given the song an updated sound for 2011. Some remixed version of songs are reworked to the point of being unrecognizable. No worries here, you'll know this song. What was good just got better. I'm sitting here typing and rocking my head to the beat. Check it out!

Welcome Home

It has been several years, but I have returned to the place I considered my second home. I can attest that everything must change. While driving around the city this evening, I've noticed growth within the little community where I spend much of my time. New business popped up in the three years since my last visit. I can't wait to see how things look in the light of day. Yes, L.A. has always felt like home. I'm glad to be here once again. I'm sure I'll have some tales to tell, since I'm spending some time with the "UNRULEY" one. Let me say this, she is a WILD GIRL like her song says. I recall someone saying years ago, "...wild women don't get the blues." "UNRULEY" don't do the blues, y'all.

Just Wild And Womanish!

Well, the UNRULEY one is at it again. All I've got to say is, this woman CANNOT, I repeat CANNOT be called predictable. I can't say when, but look for something EXCITING coming from her soon. Until then, here's a blast from her past. Yes, Dideo and Bessie's baby is a WILD GIRL!

All Turned Out....

The UNRULEY one brought in the new year performing with Klymaxx at the Morongo Casino and Resort. I've been told Cheryl gave her fans an excellent show. I have seen UNRULEY play her guitar and listened to the sounds she puts down. It's mesmerizing. As she's playing she goes further into "the zone" and takes you along for the ride. Cheryl "strokes and grips" the neck of her guitar with great precision and authority. You'll be spellbound when she falls to her knees and plays notes with her tongue. When the show is over, you'll want to smoke a cigarette, cuddle and fall asleep! It's what I have termed "musical intercourse." Jokes aside, Cheryl is doing what she does best; she's playing her music and performing for her fans. Contrary to the many lies and multiple haters coming for her, Cheryl keeps pressing on. You gotta love her -- she gets paid to do what she enjoys doing. That's a great way to bring in the New Year!!!

Dideo and Bessie's Boy

Marvin and Bessie Cooley were blessed with two children; Marlene and Cheryl. Their daughter Marlene and her husband John were blessed with one child; Brandley DeForrest. He was welcomed with open arms into the Cooley Clan on November 26, 1978. Young Brandley was born two years after the death of his grandfather, Dideo. Many have said and the pictures prove it, Young Brandley looks very much like young Grandpaw Marvin. Brandley shows an interest in and has some knowledge of the Cooley family history. I'm certain what Marlene didn't tell him he learned from his Grandma Bessie and his aunt, the UNRULEY one. Young Brandley can perform a memorable RASTA remix of the hit, "Meeting In The Ladies Room." Handsome, intelligent, talented AND a Cooley. With these great features and so much more, this young man has a very successful life ahead. Happy Birthday, Brandley!

Bessie's Birthday

Some people go about life quietly doing "their thing." Never one to complain, upbeat, optimistic, offering advice and encouragement to everyone. These people enjoy giving a warm smile or sweet laughter when needed. That would describe Bessie Virginia Colbert, born on this day ninety-one years ago to James and Josephine (nee Robnett) Colbert. Bessie would marry her high school sweetheart, Marvin Cooley. They had two daughters; Marlene and Cheryl, the "UNRULEY" one.
Aunt Bessie could make you feel so comfortable, so at ease. If it was your first time meeting or if she had known you for years, she always greeted you with her beautiful smile.
"Both of my brothers married women that reminded them of momma," is what my grandmother Veltirea said many times. Being compared to Ethyl Cooley would be a high honor. Happy Birthday to Bessie Cooley. One of the kindest, gentlest, cool as a cucumber members of the Cooley Clan.

I Rise, I Rise, I Rise!

The "Unruley" one is back! She's still just as funky as ever, but she's busted out with a new band and a new look. Unruley will always put some STANK on whatever she plays. If there are any questions about what's REALLY going on here, KLYMAXX recently performed to a sold out house in Tucson, Arizona. Several reliable sources have revealed to me the folks are still talking about the great performance. "Nobody can touch Klymaxx featuring Cheryl Cooley, they brought down the house here at the Desert Diamond Casino and Hotel last week, April 23, 2010. Thank you Cheryl, your show was over the top. Tucson is still talking about the Klymaxx Show! Please send my best regards to your ladies as well, you will be coming back soon! Great job....." Bruce McClure. Someone told her to BRANG IT and she did - with her bad self!

STANK!!! nuff said.

Don't Stop 'til You Get Enough!

I was checking out one of my favorite sites, YOUTUBE. I came across this song by the favorite musical group of the family and I wanted to share it with everyone. Go on, Cheryl - play your guitar! One thing we all know, this woman is TALENTED.

So I kept looking and I came across this other song. I have always liked Cheryl's version of the Bobby Caldwell classic, "What You Won't Do For Love." Here it is! I tell you, this woman has some talent.

Someone Is Turning Another Year Better

Once upon a time, a long time ago, there lived a little girl in the Brewster Projects in Detroit, Michigan. Oh wait, that's not this little girl. That's another diva. This young lady here had her life change the moment she saw The Beatles on the Ed Sullivan Show. When she saw John, Paul, George and Ringo perform she was hooked. She knew it's what she wanted to do. With encouragement from family members, she took music lessons. Those lessons would prove valuable later in life. They provided her the opportunity to travel throughout the world and meet various people in the entertainment industry. "All I want to do is play music." That's been her mantra for years. Find your passion in life and live it! Make it a reality. I learned that from her. On this day, I would like to extend a birthday greeting. Happy Birthday Cheryl. Much happiness today and everyday.

Make It Funky

"Can
you
smell this?"

In this picture, I know it looks like she's smelling something. She is! Cheryl had gone into "THE ZONE." At this performance, she made it FUNKY (or STANK for some of y'all). She takes you on a journey, with each note she plays. Hearing the music brings pleasure, but seeing Cheryl perform brings joy. Musician, composer, arranger, producer; she does it all. Impressive, huh? With knowledge, composure, strength - oh, and one small thing, TALENT, Cheryl continues to live and love her dream. "All I want to do is play music," is what she says. On occasion she likes an adult beverage. What's not to like about her???
